Perry Mason Is the main character in the HBO American television series Perry Mason. Perry is a hard-nosed detective who becomes an attorney because he didn't believe that anyone else could argue his cases in court properly.
Biography[]
No date of birth has been established, but based on the tombstones of his parents that are shown in the 7th episode, we know their ages. Perry's Mother was born in 1864 and his father was born in 1861. If we assume that Perry was born when they were in their mid-20s, Perry would have been born approximately in the year 1890. This fits in nicely with his service as a Captain in WWI which ended in 1918. Therefore, at the time of the events of the HBO Series, Perry is approximately 42 years old.
Service in World War I[]
Chapter 2 shows flashbacks of Perry's time while serving in France during WWI. He was an infantry Captain, and the scenes depict him leading a group of men to attack a line of enemy fighters. Perry leads the charge out of the trenches and into the line of fire. There are many casualties, but it appears that he men are able to capture the enemies position, however, Perry sees that there is a rear guard of enemy fighters that are using flame throwers and poisonous gas. Perry orders his men back, but not before many are overcome by the gas and begin showing the horrible affects of exposure. The men would die a horrible death, so Perry makes a very painful decision to put them out of their misery. He was discharged with a "blue ticket," this is implied to be due to homosexual activity. Perry described it himself as "queer only once."
Marriage and Family[]
Perry was married to Linda and they have one son, Theodore (Teddy) who appears to be approximately 8 years old. The Mason's divorced shortly before Perry became an attorney, and Linda and Teddy moved to Salinas to live with her sister Cheryl and her husband Ed.
